STRIKE SWIFTLY

-"BRONTE OR BUST"
the War Time Experiences
of My Father,
KENNETH MASON BOND 3.1.1923 - 22.11.2000
A 20TH CENTURY MAN.

"TO ALL THOSE THAT THREATEN THE WELL BEING OF AUSTRALIA and OTHER COUNTRIES OF OUR WORLD,
BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID, FOR THE PEOPLE WILL RISE AND SWEEP YOU AWAY FROM THE FACE OF OUR WORLD....
IN OTHER WORDS, WE'LL KICK YOUR ARSE!!"
-Old Australian Proverb....

PROLOGUE

In August 2000, before my father passed away in November 2000, he had his WWII experiences typed up by a friend.

Like a lot of fathers who went to WWII, he never spoke about his war time experiences as a navigator in Beaufighters.

Being a dumb kid I barely knew anything of his war time record. I knew he was up in the "islands", shot down several times but that was about it.

He did have photos from missions (called "sorties" in his story of experiences) and what always fascinated me, a small mirror, black one side with a see through cross in the centre, obviously for signalling aircraft searching for downed flyers. That has now disappeared.

Now when he handed me a copy of his experiences he emphatically told me not to rewrite it!!!! Probably thought I wanted to turn it into some sort of "Blockbuster" movie story!!!!

I did finally make a movie for Youtube, AUSTRALIANS AT WAR with my grandfathers and my father's war time experiences but based on mainly the photos that Dad took and other family souvenirs which I feature at the end of this blog.

I call this Blog "BRONTE OR BUST" simply because he grew up at Bronte, New South Wales, and it was also the name of his Beaufighter, or at least one of them. One judging by the photo, nearly didn't make it back looking at the condition of a tyre...

So here is my father's tale of his and his comrades war experiences with 30 Squadron of Beaufighters-Royal Australian Air Force, whose motto, "FERITE RAPIDO".... "STRIKE SWIFTLY" of men who lived up to those words to defend our country, Australia at the risk of their own lives.

No longer gathering dust in a draw or some part of a bookshelf the tale unfolds, in Dad's own matter of fact words.

It may also be your father's war time experience too.....
